School's out and its time for clubs. That means that for at least a short time, Naomi gets a reprive for grounding. She is exceedingly happy about this and happens to be singing a little song as she walks into the electronics shop.
It doesn't take her long to get started. This time she is starting on a new project. All she has is a bunch of components, a blank circuit board, soldier, a soldering iron, and all a means to drill some holes if she so chooses. Quietly she just seems to stare at the blank board. The board isn't the only thing that is blank right now. "Huh."
The pink plushie fairy is with her as is pretty usual anymore. She happens to be wearing a lab coat and goggles just in case something gets blown up. "Whats wrong Naomi? Did being grounded drain your mind or something?" She asks playfully.
Something does blow up, and there's a ton of smoke, but in fairness, it's outside the classroom, and the smoke part can only really be noticed once a nine year old girl in a Seishou Elementary school uniform opens the door and quickly closes it behind her.
The smoke, notably, does not smell like an electricity fire. It smells like sulphites, though the main component is just ash, and not much got through before she closed the door. The girl turns around and only then notices other people are in there.
"Uh." She looks guilty. "Hi, terrible smell out there. Someone set off a stink bomb." She makes a mock innocent look. "Wasn't me, though." She pauses, "I made it, but someone else took it and set it off. I swear!"
If Eilam really wanted to /work/ on something, he could probably accomplish such easily at his manor. Order the parts, order the tools, and just settle himself down for a while to do it. But, that wasn't the intention of why he was here at the Electronics club. Or any club for that reason. Despite everything, he still wanted to socialize to a point, because staying at home for your whole life was boring. Been there, done that. Too many times. Thus, at the moment Eilam was seated in a chair near the back of the room, metal stave that he carried around with him all the time leaning against the wall nearby. He had with him a few tools that he'd picked up, not that he was doing much with it.
Today was for people watching, really. Trying to relieve his boredom, as there wasn't directly anything on the clubs agenda that caught his interest. Sometimes older classtypes would show up, though there wasn't the most of them here today. Then the smoke outside and Eilam blinks, reaching into his blazer to pull out a hankerchief and covering his nose pointlessly with it, to try and ward off the bad smel that leaked into the doorway. He didn't quite get up, though, just watched, reaching a hand up to rub the hair out of his face so he could see easier.
Naomi looks at Lilac and shakes her head. She can't just start talking to her. Not when a number of people can't see her. People would think she was nuts. For now she just focuses on what she is going to try to make today. Yeah that's exactly what she is going to do.
Or at least thats what she hopped to do. "Oh my god what is that smell! Sorry, Blue-sama." She mutters the last part of that. Then the door opens and in walks a girl from another school. It doesn't take much to realize that the guilty party is present. Wait, she recognizes this girl, "Hiya Nicola. Nice to see you... i thought you went to a different school?" She asks curiously.
She turns her attention to the other person and gives a little wave, "Hiya! How are you today?" She asks. Her tone is rather pleasant which is good.
"Uh, Hi Naomi, and I do, but someone said I would fit in better here and while I'm fine with the school I go to I thought I ought to take a look around and see what made them say that so far it just looks like another school so I really don't see the big deal but maybe I'm missing something and while I'm here you might be able to tell me what they were thinking or maybe I'm disturbing something and if I am please do let me know." Nicola takes a deep breath after that long, rambling sentence.
She half-hides behind Naomi when the latter starts talking to class-mates, looking a little uncertain. The girl with red-flecked eyes and an obviously foreign (but not matching any stereotypical) accent just peeks out from behind, "Uh, Hi."
Something that those who have been around Eilam before would know is that when he speaks, it's a bit more 'proper'. As if when he learned to speak Japanese, it was from something a bit more upper class, almost. Old. Which might even be an odd combination for one who looked his age. "I was fine, until something rather bad-smelling invaded the room." And with that he stood, slowly, taking a deep breath as he did as if it hurt to stand only to reach out and grab the stave he had nearby to lean against lightly. Of course, this meant the hankerchief wasn't over his nose anymore, not that it did much good to begin with.
Walking over towards the wall, Eilam reaches out and pushes a button that turns on the overhead vents, which was a good thing for those who worked in an Electronics area. There were small fume hoods and vents around soldering equipment, but there was also good ventilation in the room for when it was required. And then he made his way back to his seat and gingerly sat back down, letting out a soft breath as he did, relaxing again.
Naomi Yomada smiles to Nicola, "This school is really good. Its gotta be up there with Verone as one of the best in Tokyo. The teachers are really helpful and you can really learn alot even from the older students here." She giggles a little, "You're fine. This is the Electronics club." She gestures to one of the walls that happens to have a nasty scorch mark on it. "That was my doing! I sorta blew up a tv while I was trying to learn what made it work. Thankfully it was an older tv. Otherwise someone may have gotten a little annoyed." She giggles playfully.
She glances over to Eilam and smiles a little. "It isn't that bad. I mean it could be a lot worse. We could have the brunt of it in here. We are just getting a little bit of it. What are you working on?" She asks curiously.
"Oh so the teachers are less stupid?" Nicola says in a tone that makes no secret of her opinion of her own, there's a complete lack of respect for their intelligence, probably partially driven by their underestimation of hers. She looks towards the fume hoods, "We had a really big one of those back home." Home seems to be a word evoking sadness, even though she works past that with focused excitement. "Whenever my tutor told me my experiments would likely get really smelly or would get poisonous, I had to work under that one." What kind of tutor would even let a girl her age work chemicals poisonous enough to demand a fume hood? Maybe just instilling good habits?
"Yes, well... when you do something that causes a cathode ray tube to explode, it can have rather disastrous effects." Eilam sniffed a bit at that, "I have never been fond of any smells like that. It's why I prefer to wear the scents I do. Flowers, fruits. Some might think it more fitting of a feminine sort, but there is nothing masculine or feminine about smelling pleasant. Still, if you have a tutor, that is good for you. Keep you from hurting yourself, it sounds like. Hopefully if you decide to come here that caution will continue."
With a rather snobby tone he added, "It would be untoward if someone hurt themselves from not being safe after all. No one wants to see that." as if he didn't really care about the fact of someone hurting themselves so much as not wanting to see it. If that was his intention or not is hard to say. "Also, I am not currently working on anything. I had considered it, but nothing strikes my immediate fancy. ...so I have been watching others as of the moment."
Naomi Yomada smiles a little to Nicola, "They would help you out like that here too. They don't wanna kill anyone with mustard gas or anything." She giggles a little. "Hmmm Maybe I can do that! But..." She sighs a little.
It worked last time so, maybe it will work this time? She stands and gets into position. She begins doing basic waltz box step dance. No partner of course. Her moves aren't exactly graceful. "Umm Well, Okay hope you come up with something really good!" She smiles a little as she continues moving.
"Mustard gas isn't really my style, though. I'm more into pyrotechnics~" Nicola doesn't appear to consider the alarm people might have at hearing a little girl like her being into pyrotechnics, perhaps she just doesn't realize that it might be cause for alarm.
"I'm always careful not to hurt myself, though!" She protects quickly, looking past Naomi towards the boy once again. "If I hurt myself people would get mad and I wouldn't get to make more things, and I don't want that." Sounds like a screwed up sense of priorities on her part, too.
"..."
First meeting, she sets off a bomb, and then she admits she's into pyrotechnics? "I shall remind myself not to spend too much time around you, lest I get blown up. Your track record so far seems suspect. Though I suppose any attempt to be..." a yawn is covered up by a hand as he speaks, "...careful is good."
And with that Eilam stands again, leaning against the stave he had with him as he did. Once up, he began to gather up the tools he'd gotten himself and went about returning them to where they go at his own pace. Club wasn't quite over yet, though. Perhaps he was going to excuse himself! Or maybe just cleaning up. "...your dancing reminds me, I wanted to make a music box at some point. An electronic one."
Naomi Yomada giggles a little as she keeps moving, "Well! Nagihiko-sama is right! Dancing is fun and it helps out a lot!!! It helped me figure out something yesterday. Now it helped you. I am totally going to keep this up!" She beams over the whole thing.
Suddenly she stops. "I know! I'm going to make a light dimmer!" She steps over to her tools and begins drilling holes in her circuit board." She looks over at Nicola. "Don't mind him! I blow up stuff all the time! It's part of learning!"
Nicola takes a step back at Eilam's clear accusation, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to cause any harm I guess I better go now but I hope you have a nice day bye." Then she goes through the door, not even registering Naomi's recommendation not to mind Eilam, quickly closing the door behind her, some more of that smell wafting through regardless, and the little girl runs off.
As Nicola makes a dash for it, Eilam shakes his head. "I would think the age of people blowing themselves and others up in the name of science was over, but it seems quite alive." Eilam made his way back to where he was sitting, looking around as if searching for something. Content he didn't forget anything, he started to turn only for his cell phone to ring. A relatively old-sounding German classical tune came on, Eilam taking the phone out and looking at it. There was a few moments of silence and then he began to type on it, and a ding signaling he sent the message. Why yes, that was the newest (insert magical girl-sounding phone here), and rather expensive-looking too.
"I should get something to eat." he said to no one but himself, though saying it aloud regardless. "But what..."
Naomi Yomada looks at the man and shrugs, "Curiosity is one of those things that can be contained. It needs let out and let loose. Its a spark that gives way to a great fire. Things blow up, Failurs happen. How many times did Edison fail before he got the light bulb right?" She asks politely.
Eilam turns to stare towards Naomi quietly only to laugh, "Yes, I suppose that is the case, but in this day and age there are safer ways to go about it. Though you might be a bit too young to know about some of the more dangerous things that happened in the name of scientific advancement." he shook his head a little. "Even something like supplying water to New York City, through pipes, instead of the pond that it was. The project to pipe underneath the river, the dangers, blowouts... lives lost and while we did learn from such... just imagine, what would have been if they'd tried to be safer, rather than quicker?"
And then he walked over towards where Naomi was, reaching up to try and pat her atop the head like a cute little kid. Even if she didn't look much younger than he did. He stopped, however, realizing what he'd started to try and do and thought better of it.
Naomi giggles, "Sometimes all it takes is one big mishap to lead to a breakthrough though. Like, I blew up a boombox a few days ago. Started a fire. It was bad. I figured out how I could not repeat that though. Its pretty cool." She smiles
Then he goes to pat her on the head. Not that she would have a problem with this. She is after all, still a kid.
It's not terribly often that Eilam thinks about his family. But for a brief moment, he did. Why, hard to say. "Are you hungry too? Or do you intend to finish your... light dimmer, was it?" A simple enough question perhaps as he started to walk towards the door.
Naomi Yomada smiles, "I won't finish today if I try. I've gotta go home soon to be honest. There is some stuff I need to do. I think maybe a friend was onto something. Yesterday I got a lesson in dancing. Its a lot of fun and it helps me think more clearly. I think if I do that more maybe I can make stuff better."
"Okay." And with that, Eilam just as simply walked out the door, on his way down to the outside of Infinity University at a slow enough pace to meet up with his ride. Nothing too unusual there, however. Even if Eilam hadn't been around terribly long, he always had a habit of being a bit odd at times. And leaving without much todo was one of them.
